TELPAS, STAAR-ALT & Other Online Testing Presented by: Nancy Webster, Galena Park ISD & Tracy McDaniel, Spring ISD

What is TELPAS? The Texas English Language Proficiency Assessment System (TELPAS) is designed to assess the progress that limited English proficient (LEP) students in grades K-12 make in learning the English language. There are two parts: – Holistic rating – TELPAS Reading multiple choice assessment (grades 2- 12) holistic rating (grades K & 1) Assesses current LEP students only

What is STAAR Alt? STAAR Alternate is designed for the purpose of assessing students in grades 3–8 and high school who have significant cognitive disabilities and are receiving special education services. – This is not a multiple choice assessment – All grades (3-11) move to STAAR-Alt this year

What do I need to think about this fall? Sources of Information – TEA Student Assessment web site What’s New – TETNs TETNs Know who will coordinate TELPAS & STAAR Alt on your campuses

Implications STAAR Alt – Your special education department is key here – ARDs New participation requirements – Selection of Test Administrators – Training of all involved Website to be announced – Upload STAAR Alt students

Implications TELPAS – Current LEP LPAC PEIMS data validity – Years in US Schools – Selection of Raters and Test Administrators – Preparing to train raters Preparing to train raters – The writing collection process Get all students used to writing in all content areas Establish a procedure for re-rating a district-determined selection of writing samples a second time – Be sure to document this procedure

Training Center Teachers must enroll in the site themselves to take the assessments. You can not create an account for them. 2learn.com 2learn.com

Statewide User Look-Up Use this tool to look up teachers state-wide to see their training status.

Authorize Campus & District Coordinators This tool grants you access to authorize users who are campus test coordinators. Users can request campus test coordinator access and you are sent an to verify they are CTCs. If you have someone supporting you at the district with TELPAS you can grant them DTC Assistant rights.

TELPAS & TAKS-Alt Reports These reports enable you to monitor the training of campus personnel. My favorite report is the At- a-Glance Report.

Texas Assessment Management System Your source for all things testing.

Texas Assessment Management System Manual The second most important thing next to your DCCM.

Administrative Management Link Use this link to create accounts for all your CTCs and teachers. You can upload a.csv of all of your teacher accounts here (time saver). Do this at the beginning of the year

Organization Tab Helps you change from one organization to another You can change from a district view to a campus view which is required for some pieces of TELPAS/TAKS Alt.

Student Data Tab Think of this tab as you student database. Add in new students when then enroll in your district.

Student Data Tab: Send Student Data This is where you will upload your files created by your district’s student management software to create your student data base. The upload file can be found under the support link: Resources: Downloads: Student Data File Header If there is an error, you can resubmit your file. A is sent to show your status.

Student Data: Manage Student Directory This tab lets you search for students statewide based on Texas testing history or add new students not in the testing database. This tab also gives you demographics on students when you find their name. – Student Details This is where you attach a student to a campus. – Enrollments

Test Management This tab allows you to register students for testing, create sessions and manage those sessions during testing.

Test Management: Register Students This section is where you sign students up for the test. When you choose a student you can update their demographics and assign them to a group and a test. Students must first be present in the Student Data Tab.

Test Management: Manage Test Sessions During testing this helps the DTC and the CTC keep track of who is testing and when they have completed. If you click on a group you will see all the students in that group and their testing status in Session Details. This is also where you proctor cach the tests from. If you click on a student name in the Session Details it takes you to the Student Test Details Screen, you can mark a students accommodations and score code. Manage Test Sessions Session Details Student Test Details

Student Evaluation This tab is where you: – Manage TELPAS rating groups – Enter TELPAS holistic rating information – Enter TAKS-Alt Assessment Data – View Student Evaluation Reports

Student Evaluation: Manage TELPAS Rating Entry Groups To access this you must be signed in as a campus. You can view by rating entry group or student. You can create a new rating group here.

Student Evaluation: Enter TELPAS Holistic Rating Information Teachers enter ratings here. Teacher must be granted rights in the administrative management tab.

Student Evaluation: View Student Evaluation Status Reports TELPAS TELPAS Holistic Rating Student Status Report TELPAS Holistic Rating Snapshot TELPAS Combined Status Report TELPAS Summary Report

Student Evaluation: View Student Evaluation Reports: TELPAS Holistic Rating Student Status Report Report to view all the holistic rating data for all students within a district or campus.

Student Evaluation: View Student Evaluation Status Report: TELPAS Holistic Rating Snapshot Quick look at the current status of holistic ratings for a district or a campus.

Student Evaluation: View Student Evaluation Reports: TELPAS Combined Status Report Helps to determine the over all status of students data entry.

Student Evaluation: View Student Evaluation: TELPAS Summary Report Determine the assessment status of the students by campus

Other online testing STAAR EOC & TAKS – Decide who will test when they will test the modality (paper or online) – Consider Resources – Computers – Bandwidth – Calculators

Other online testing Get ready to create and double check the accuracy of your precode data file – Are all courses and sections for a given EOC covered? i.e. Are ESOL I students in the English I data file? – Do the number of students for a given course match the number of students indicated to take an EOC exam in the data file? – Is the modality (paper or online) correctly indicated in the precode data file?
