 It is a medical condition in which too much body fat accumulates in the body and is stored there.  “Obesity” and “overweight” are both terms used to label a weight that is greater than what is considered healthy.  Obesity is linked to a number of health risks, including heart disease and diabetes.

According to the American Heart Association (2012 statistics):  Compared with , the number of children 5 to 7 years of age who were obese was 5 times higher in  Among children ages 2-19, about 1 in 6 are obese.  60 million Americans, age 20 and older, are obese.  1 in 3 children born in the year 2000 will develop Diabetes sometime in their life.  Overweight adolescents have a 70% chance of becoming overweight adults.
