Preface Come, my friends, ‘Tis not too late to seek a newer world. Push off, and sitting well in order smite The sounding furrows; for my purpose holds To sail beyond the sunset, and the baths Of all the western stars, until I die. -Lord Alfred Tennyson, Ulysses

Celebrity Giving Giving has become hip and cool in recent years. Sports figures, media moguls, and entrepreneurs across the globe have begun to share their riches in the service of humanity. Oprah Winfrey builds $40 million school in South Africa for girls. Lance Armstrong raising money for cancer, selling yellow LiveStrong bracelets. Ted Turner gives $1 billion to the United Nations, to encourage global giving.

New Ways to Give Donor-advised funds at community foundations and family foundations. Internet democratizes the philanthropic landscape through expanded online donations, and supports new emphasis on youth service to their communities and the world through sites enabling adults to fund.

New Ways to Give Nonprofit programs such as Women Moving Millions of the Women’s Funding Network, the United Way’s Women’s Initiatives, The Women’s Philanthropy Initiative, and giving circles and women’s foundations worldwide are available for women becoming leaders of innovation. Family foundations and giving federations are popular venues for giving

New Ways to Give Wealth advisors and giving coaches emerge to improve our giving focus and follow-through. Donors, advisors, and nonprofits find shared joy and values expressed in the integration of giving, social investing, and legacy planning.

Inspired Philanthropy More people are discovering that philanthropy and acts of generosity and kindness can become lifelines. Small amounts can change a LIFE, VILLAGE, or SYSTEM when the potential of the gift is matched or properly leveraged by a caring community and thoughtful leadership.

Passing on core values and shaping a better world is NOT DONE in isolation or silence. Giving is fun, creative, and meaningful for both the giver and the receiver. In the United States alone there are now over 1.6 million nonprofits.
