UL Listing for Radiation Monitoring Devices Clyde Makinson Seltech Inc. Richland, WA phone OSHA Safety Standards, any product used in the workplace must be approved by a Nationally Recognized Testing Laboratory (NRTL). The type of products requiring NRTL approval, for some organizations, is starting to include area radiation monitors and radioactive counting equipment. The OSHA product listing is officially posted is at: Electrical conductors or equipment ; Automatic sprinkler systems.; Fixed extinguishing systems; Fixed extinguishing systems components and agents; Fire detection device for automatic actuation of total flooding system; Portable fire extinguishers; Automatic fire detection devices and equipment; Employee alarm systems ; …….. ect.

Nationally Recognized Testing Laboratories (NRTLs) There are eighteen NRTLs recognized by OSHA to test and certify products for safety. Each NRTL is unique in its cost structure, level of capability and scope of products they are able to certify. A few of those 18 are. Applied Research Laboratories, Inc. (ARL) Canadian Standards Association (CSA) Communication Certification Laboratory, Inc. (CCL) Underwriters Laboratories Inc. (UL) Wyle Laboratories, Inc. (WL)

Providing NRTL Certification by UL Listed Hi-Q Model CF-900 (UL Listed) Brushed Blower Portable Air Samplers $10,000 and 8 months for initial UL Listing, $1,000/year for renewal List price $900 each – 50 units sold per year.

Providing NRTL Certification by UL Field Evaluation Ludlum Measurements M375P-336 Waste Monitor – typically tests 5 units at a time Approximate Cost $5,000 per visit by UL field engineer Field engineer only approves those instruments that are tested during visit. Normal purchase price without UL Evaluation $4,000.
