This war would eventually lead to additional large amounts of land being annexed to the U.S. Texas was not annexed until 1845, nine years after the actual battle. This was due the controversy over the slavery, the North did not want to be overpowered in Congress.

Texas eventually won its independence. New Mexico, Nevada, Arizona, California, Utah, Oklahoma, Kansas, Colorado, and Wyoming were later annexed with Texas. Later led to the Mexican-American War, which established the border of the Texas and Mexico as the Rio Grande. Later led to the Gadsden Purchase, which established the transcontinental railroad.
