Recycling and renewable energies Questionnaire of the Comeniusproject GREENET TO THE FUTURE Oberschule Kirchdorf

Recycling and renewable energies The questionnaires were given to all the 246 pupils of the Oberschule Kirchdorf. They were asked to pass them to their parents. All in all, 135 parents answered the questionnaire. It seemed important to ask the parents, because the schhol is situated in a rural area and thus, it was possible to reach many persons.

Gender of the interviewed persons 89 of the 135 distributed questionnaires were filled in by women. That's probably due to the fact that mostly women feel responsible for the education of their children.

1. How many people live in your household and what is the size of your dustbin? 14 families (of 19 families) living in a household of 2- 3 persons only need a 60 or 120 litre-dustbin. The households of 4-5 persons use the 120- and 240 litre dustbins. 48 households (of 88 households) only need the 120 litre-dustbin. All the dustbins are removed once in 4 weeks.

2. Would it be possible to reduce the residual waste, if you separated your waste more precisely? (Please only tick one answer) 67,4 % of all the asked persons think that they separate their waste very precisely. Almost a third mentions that it coud do better in order to reduce more of its waste. Only 2 persons think that it's to inconvenient for them.

3. Which kinds of garbage collection do you use apart from the „Yellow Bag“? ( You may tick more answers)

3. Which kinds of garbage collection do you use apart from the „Yellow Bag“? There are boxes for glass and used batteries in every German town. You may see in this chart that these systems are used by many of the asked people. The prices of used metal have been relatively high for the last years. Consumers can sell their used metal. There are special collection points for used gadgets and special waste. They care for the correct „throwing away“. Many associations collect used paper in the community of Kirchdorf to earn money with it. They are supported by almost all the asked people. The chart shows that the citizens use the collection systems actively.

4. Only packaging with the „Green Dot“ can be collected in the „Yellow Bag“. Other objects made of plastic and synthetic material must be put in the residual waste. The German Federal Government intents to introduce „Yellow Bins“ throughout Germany, any kinds of plastic and metal packaging may be put into (regardless of the Green Dot) Do you think it is useful?

4. The German Federal Government intents to introduce „Yellow Bins“ throughout Germany, any kinds of plastic and metal packaging may be put into (regardless of the Green Dot) Do you think it is useful? All the packages of plastic and metall wirth a green dot can be disposed in the „ yellow bin“. The packages of plastic and metall without a green dot must be disposed in the residual waste bin. Over 85 % of the interviewees mentioned, that a yellow waste bin has to be explored to save raw materials and to make the sorting easier for all. 19% of the interviewees attach the importance on a cheap exploration of a yellow bin.

5. Do you use disposable or returnable bottles if you buy beverages? 45 persons who answered the questionnaire buy only PET bottles, which are often refilled a few times. Therefore it can be bottles of glas or PET. About 50% of the questioned persons use both of the possiblities to buy drinks. Only a few persons only buy non returnable bottles.

6.The German Federal Government decided the nuclear phase-out. What do you think about it? (Please only tick one answer) The majority (56%) of the interviewees like the end of the nuclear power. 42 of the questionned persons think that the abandonment of nuclear energy is made too fast and wish more time for the decisions. A few months before the nuclear catastrophe of Fukushima the german government extend the working lives of existing nuclear reactors. The desicion was revised after Fukushima. Only 5 persons like the nuclear power.

7. Do you use eco-power? Even thought 56% of the intervieweers think positive of the abandonment of nuclear power only 32 of 135 persons use ecological power. The persons can choose between a lot of different providers of power.

8. Are you willing to spend more money on electricity when it is produced by renewable energies? (Please tick only one answer) Most of the people won´t pay more money for ecological electricity. Only 37 of the 135 questionned parents would pay higher prices for ecological electricity.

9a. Were there any energy efficiency measures on your house/your flat in the last 5 years? In 58 households energy saving measures are currently implented in the last years. In 77 households energy saving measures were implented in the last 5 years. The other households insulated their house very good (38) or installed a new heating system (39). 21 households heat the water they use with the help of the sun.

11. The German Federal Government intends to produce more electricity by means of wind energy. What do you think about it? 107 persons like the opportunity to produce more power with the help of wind power. Only 19 persons strictly reject this opportunity. Because many wind power plants were built in the last 15 years the population get used with this plants.

11. What is your opinion about the construction of wind power plants? Of the107 persons, which have a positive opinion about wind power:  41 persons don´t care about the place of wind power plants if the conditions are good.  56 persons don´t care about the place for a wind power plant, if it isn´t near their own house.
