Texas - the amazing state In 1835 the Alamo war was fought between the Mexicans and the Texans. Mexico won the war. Jim Bowie and Davy Crockett were famous Texans, who fought and died in the war. So Texas wanted to be its own country. But Mexico owned Texas as its own state and the Spanish owned Mexico. So Mexico sent out a General President called Santa Anna to win the war at the Alamo to show they were invincible. So Texas wanted to be its own country.
