Proposal of RP Control Area adapted to the evacuation campaign of radioactive waste from CERN radioactive storage Yann PIRA, Chris THEIS, Kurt WEISS 19/05/15, ATS-RC-WG

Requirements Proximity of the radioactive storages :  ALARA,  Minimize distances and time spent for transport, Proximity of the daily actors : GS, RP, A place with the lowest radioactive background, A closed, safe area, and sheltered from bad weather conditions, Wifi or internet access for TREC registeration,

Proposal : Shelter 951

Sheltered place. Closed area. Concrete slab : easy to develop (steel plate on groundfloor, concrete shielding blocks).

Proposal : Shelter 951 Available space of about 100m 2 by removing 10 electrical transformers.

Proposal : Shelter 951 Low and relatively stable radiation background measured on the groundfloor :  13/05/15 : between 20 to 30 c/s with BGO probe (sunny weather condition + MD : no beams in north arera ).  18/05/15 : between 25 to 35 c/s with BGO probe (sunny weather condition + Proton beam in north area ). Good measurement conditions for RP.

Proposal Shelter 951 : conclusion Pros : Proximity of the radioactive storages :  ALARA,  Minimize distances and time spent for transport, Proximity of the daily actors : GS, RP, Low and relatively stable radioactive background, Partially sheltered and close area. Cons : Removal of a certain number of items stored at this place. To be improved : Improve the sheltering of the area (protective wall, additionnal tent?), Improve RP measuring conditions (additional shielding : shielding blocks, steel plates on the floor) Wifi/Internet for TREC works
