The cost was 1,250,000 plus the debts which was worth 3,750,000 plus interest to where U.S. paid 23,213,568 for louisiana territory. Since that was done, that opened up vast area of natural resources. Napoleon sold it to the U.S. for pennies per Acer, and ended the period of French colonialism Midwestern portion of the land mass.
