SIGNIFICANCE OF LOUISIANA 1812 Great Britain and allied Indians defeated U.S. forces in the upper Mississippi. Louisiana Purchase was the acquisition by U.S. of 828,000 square miles of French territory. The cost was 1,250,000 plus the debts which was worth 3,750,000 plus interest to where U.S. paid 23,213,568 for louisiana territory. Since that was done, that opened up vast area of natural resources. Napoleon sold it to the U.S. for pennies per Acer, and ended the period of French colonialism Midwestern portion of the land mass.

GEOGRAPHY LOUISIANA PURCHASE Louisiana Purchase is located between Mississippi River to the Rocky Mountains. It stretches from Gulf of Mexico to the Canadian border.
