What is Air Pollution? What causes Air Pollution? What does Air Pollution do to us? How should we act?

Releasing matter into the atmosphere that are harmful to the health and safety of living things That includes us!

Bad gases from vehicles : Carbon monoxide (CO), Nitrogen oxides (NO x ), Hydrocarbons, Particulates Bad gases from factories : Nitrogen oxides(NO x ), Sulfur dioxide (SO 2 )

Bad gases from burning rubbish Bad gases from burning fuels for energy for A.C.s, heaters, and lights

Look around you. How many sources of air pollution can you find, now?

Air pollution also occurs naturally : Bushfires, Vocanic eruption And causes LOTS OF PROBLEMS

 Headaches  Coughing  Eye irritation  Asthma  Cancer  … and many more!  They can also kill plants animals

 SMOG  Global Warming

SMOKE + FOG = SMOG When smog hangs over a city, it becomes hard to breath and see clearly. Beijing air on a day after rain (VS) a smoggy day

In December 1952, the Great London Smog occurred and more than 4000 people died because of the smog!

Smog is also caused by the air pollutants

 What do we know about Global Warming already?  What is a greenhouse?  What are greenhouse gases?

This is known as… The rays of the sun warm the Earth, and the gases in the atmosphere stop some of the heat from escaping into space. This process is called the 'Greenhouse Effect’ because it works the same way as a greenhouse. The windows of a greenhouse work like the atmosphere, keeping some of the sun light inside the greenhouse. When there are more and more greenhouse gases in the atmosphere, more heat is trapped which makes the Earth warmer.

Many scientists say, Global warming can cause a huge lot of problems!

 Melt the icebergs in the polar regions (Arctic and Antarctica)  Drown the polar bears because the icebergs melt  Cause huge floods  And many more..

Some suggestions…  Walking or biking close distances  Turn off light when leaving the room  Turn off the A.C. or heaters when not using  Recycle glass bottles, jars, cans, plastic bottles and paper
