“I can’t do it,” I said.
“Don’t give up on yourself,” my coach said. “You’ll get it eventually.”
One more minute…
“It’s not your fault.” “It could have been any one of us.” “You just got unlucky.”
“Take it easy, you’re going in for the whole game this time,” my coach said.
“Really?” “Really.”
“Strike one.” “Strike two.” “Strike three.”
Inning Six…
Timeout…
“Are you okay?” my coach asks. “No.”
“Do you want to sit out?” he asks. “No.”
“One more good one, and you can go rest…”
“Strike three!” the umpire shouted.

Inning Seven…
There is no room for error here.
“Strike one.” “Strike two.”
“Strike three!”
“We’re going to Provincials!”
“Are you ready for Provincials?” he asks happily.
“But we still have one more-”
“The tournament committee made a mistake, we’re in the top two!”
