Presentation transcript:

Global Campaign for Microbicides Rebekah Webb, European Coordinator

An umbrella… 2000 endorsers and 55 partners worldwide: Global North Partners in: Ireland, UK, Netherlands, Scandinavia, Spain Canada and in the US Global South Partners in: KenyaGhana Uganda India South Africa Thailand

Global Campaign goals:  Mobilize resources and political will for increased investment in research  Create a supporting political environment for the timely development, introduction and use of microbicides and other new prevention options  Ensure that, as the science proceeds, the public interest is respected and rights of trial participants, users and communities are protected

The Advocates’ Message There is a broad-based, demonstrable demand for user-controlled prevention methods North American and European investment in microbicide research and development should be -substantially increased and -raised annually until first products reach the market. Without this investment, we may not see user- controlled HIV prevention tools available within this decade.
