T HE I MPORTANT BOOK By Margaret Wise Brown author of….

R AIN FROM THE IMPORTANT BOOK The important thing about rain is that it is wet. It falls out of the sky, and it sounds like rain, and makes things shiny, and it does not taste like anything, and is the color of air. But the important thing about rain Is that it is wet.

That’s what Margaret Wise Brown had to say about rain…. Here’s what you said about our vocabulary words….

FRANGIBLE The important thing about frangible is that it is delicate and easy to break. It describes the antique dishes in your cabinet, and it sounds like fragile glass breaking, and it makes dangerous situations, and it is not sturdy nor heavy duty. But the important thing about frangible is that it is delicate and easy to break.

FRANGIBLE The important thing about frangible is that it means fragile. It is an adjective, and it is not sturdy, and it is handled with care, and it makes things delicate. But the important thing about frangible is that it means fragile.

LUGUBRIOUS The important thing about lugubrious is that it’s gloomy. It’s a feeling that you feel, and it looks like somber, and it sounds depressing, and makes you sad, and without it we would be carefree. But the important thing about lugubrious is that it’s gloomy.

LUGUBRIOUS The important thing about lugubrious is that it’s sad. It’s always negative, and it deepens depression, and it follows you in the rain, and it finds you after in the morning, and it disappears in the sun. But the important thing about lugubrious is that it’s sad.

DESICCATE The important thing about desiccate is that it is never wet. It will make a raisin, and makes a wet street dry. It could happen to you when running. It could happen to you when you fly. But the important thing about desiccate is that it is never wet.

WRENCHING The important thing about wrenching is that it is agonizing. You can see pain or discomfort in a person’s eyes, and it represents suffering, both mentally and physically, and you sometimes hear sobbing, and it’s due to the sight of somebody’s torment or pain. But the important thing about wrenching is that it is agonizing.

VERNACULAR The important thing about vernacular is that it’s simple. It is the everyday language, and many people understand it, and it makes communicating less complex, and it doesn’t take a rocket scientist to understand it, and it shouldn’t be used in a formal paper. But the important thing about vernacular is that it’s simple.

REPLETE The important thing about replete is that it is abundant. It is never empty, and never lacking. It is always full, and loaded with things, and won’t run out. But the important thing about replete is that it is abundant.

EQUANIMITY The important thing about equanimity is that it is peaceful. It is true that it is composed, and it is orderly, and people respect it, and it is not cluttered and anxious, and you get good grades for it. But the important thing about equanimity is that it is peaceful.
