Presentation transcript:

Set Up For Success in Science Approach science activities with enthusiasm Set up child-directed activities so the children can experiment on their own at their own pace. Encourage children to repeat an activity over and over until the learning makes sense. Give every child a chance to be a part of the experiment with special emphasis on the use of the senses. Always use open-ended questions.

Use the Scientific Method Ask- What will happen if… Guess- I think this will happen Try- Test to see if your guess is what really happens. Answer-This is what happened

Rotate Durable Science Tools Magnifying glasses Balance scales Magnets Animals Plants Measuring tapes

Include Materials not Usually Associated With Science in the Center Paper Markers and Crayons Bells Magazines

Children as Scientists Children also build vocabulary skills in picking out similarities and differences. Children improve their language skills and general knowledge of concepts such as round, triangular, big and small are discussed. By weighing and counting items, math skills are also enhanced. Small muscle and hand-eye coordination improve as children measure items, collect samples, and handle objects.

Science Made Simple Show children to feel their pulse and heartbeat. Watch popcorn pop. Magnet experiments Make rainbows with a garden hose. Make a shadow with a flashlight.

Assignment Go around the room and find 7 things that you can use to teach science to the kids. Tell me why that object can be used for science related activities.
