Ne New Curriculum evening

New Curriculum evening General changes from September 2014 An expectation that children will be taught as a group and move at roughly the same pace in their learning Many aspects of English and Maths have been moved to lower year groups An emphasis on “Spoken language” and learning poetry and passages by rote.

Ne New Curriculum evening General changes from September 2014 Old levels are no longer used to measure children’s progress and attainment. Schools have to find their own ways of showing pupil progress. Levels will remain until July 2015 for years 2 and 6.

New New Curriculum evening Specific changes in English Higher expectations in EYFS to gain a “Good Level of Development” (GLD) Greater emphasis on teaching SPAG as a separate area of the curriculum Spoken Language – children expected to be taught public speaking and debating skills

New New Curriculum evening Specific changes in English (cont) Schools have a responsibility to encourage a love of reading which should be independent and across a range of genres Children should be given opportunities to write at length on a range of subjects

Ne N New Curriculum evening Assessment for national tests Early Years children are assessed on “Early Learning Goals” at the end of their reception year for GLD. Year 1 children take a “Phonic Screening Test” in June Year 2 children take end of Key Stage tests in reading and maths and have a teacher assessment for writing

Ne New Curriculum evening Assessment for national tests (cont) Year 6 children take end of Key Stage 2 tests in reading, maths and science Year 6 teachers have to provide a teacher assessment level for every child– with evidence – in writing
