Welcome to EBSCOs Hobbies & Crafts Reference Center (HCRC) tutorial. HCRC is a comprehensive database that provides detailed "how-to" instructions and creative ideas to meet the interests of virtually every hobby enthusiast. In this tutorial, we will look at how to conduct a search from the Basic Search screen, as well as the various browsing options available in HCRC.

Well begin by conducting a search in HCRC from the Basic Search screen. Enter your search term(s) in the Find field and click the Search button.

A result list is displayed. You can refine your results by using the limiters in the left-hand column. Click on a Full Text link to view the full text of the article, or click on an article title to view the Detailed Record for that article.

You can also browse HCRC content in other ways. The Browse by Category area allows you to browse articles by specific hobby or interest. Lets begin by clicking Arts & Crafts.

HCRC will display a list of topics related to the Arts & Crafts category. Click a topic (for example, Jewelry Making) to display a list of results.

Select an item in the result list to view the detailed record and full text. On the Detailed Record screen, you can view all of the citation information for the article or click the Full Text link to read the article. You can also Print, , Save, Cite, or Export an article by clicking the corresponding icons under the Tools Menu on the right.

Hobbies & Crafts Reference Center also allows users to search available images and videos from the top toolbar. Users can search within the Hobbies & Crafts Video Collection and Image Quick View Collection databases. From any screen, click the Video/Images link at the top. Enter your search terms in the Find field and click Search.

A result list of videos is displayed. Click on the Video link to view the Flash video. Under Database in the left column, click Show More, check Image Quick View Collection box, and click Update to view available images related to your search. Click on an image thumbnail to view the image.

HCRC also features content that is rotated on a regular basis in Browse Popular Sources. You can also read about a special project under the Crafts Spotlight and view a how-to video under Featured Video.
