Mrs. Abel Social Studies

Geography –all year during I-Class The 5 Themes The World Tour – a simulated trip around the world, researching places of significance to recent American history.

Economics and Government - First and Second Quarter Economics basics Free enterprise system The Stock Market Game Investwrite competition Personal finances The Game of Life

A request: Please donate $10 to the Pueblo PTO to help fund our teams for the Stock Market Game and pay for a class subscription to Jr. Scholastic!

Studying economics we will answer important questions like: “Why are there more chickens than whales?” and “Why have children?

For government we will learn about: Types of Government Three Branches of Government Political Parties Voting

And then… History – Third and Fourth Quarter American Revolution and The Constitution The Twentieth Century to the present WWII and the Holocaust Civil Rights Movement The Cold War Vietnam Gulf Wars 9/11

Lessons are designed around the state and Kyrene curriculums and include studies of the physical location and attributes, customs, religions, languages, and basic history of various regions of the world. An emphasis is made on the relevance to us of that region.

This is accomplished through reading selections with accompanying questions, a geographic study, an activity, a visual aid (video, slides, speaker,?) and an assessment.

Grades are weighted Assessments – 80% Presentations/Projects Essays Tests Assignments - 20% Classwork Homework

Assignments can be found on my web page as well as links to PowerPoints and other information to help with the assignments.
