Homework Homework is posted each and every day on the board. Students are responsible for copying assignments into their planners. Homework is due the next day unless otherwise directed. Late Work-All late work MUST have a late work slip completely filled out and stapled to the front of the assignment. –Graded at least once per week!

Curriculum Grade 8 ELA is divided into 3 units: –Exploring the Unknown –Freedom –Love & Friendship

Unit 1-Exploring the Unknown Develop an understanding of how scientific discover and innovation enhance and complicate our lives, while addressing the moral and ethical implications that accompany advances in science and/or technology.

Unit 2-Freedom Develop an understanding of freedom through the exploration of literary fiction, nonfiction, and diverse media texts. The anchor text will be “I Have a Dream” given by Martin Luther King, Jr.

Unit 3-Love & Friendship Students will develop an understanding of the types of relationships that exist between individuals and the bonds that often sustain relationships, while focusing on Romeo and Juliet.

Student Expectations Come to class and be on time. Complete class work on time. Do all your homework and bring it to school with you each day. Bring all necessary materials to class. Be an active learner- participate! Respect others.

60% Classwork & Participation 30% Tests and Quizzes 10% Homework Grading Categories

Supplies ELA notebook (this can be a section in your binder or a separate binder) Loose leaf paper Pencils and blue or black pens 1 Colored Pen (Red, Green, Purple, Pink, etc.) Highlighter Notebook (spiral or composition) for drills
