Overview of EEZ compliance functions Monitoring compliance of: Permitted activities Existing structures Transitional operations Marine consents Investigation and taking compliance actions where necessary Providing guidance and promoting awareness

Types of permitted activities Submarine cabling Prospecting and exploration phases of seabed mining Marine scientific research Seismic surveying

Transitional activities These were planned before the Act came into force They can continue until 28 June 2014 provided they: prepare an impact assessment provide this impact assessment to the EPA

Existing activities These activities began before the Act came into force They can continue unless “changes” occur For any “changes” they must apply to the EPA

How we monitor transitional and existing operations We monitor these in a similar way to permitted activities with: intelligence gathering operator liaison compliance action We have also conducted inspections

Inspections Transitional inspections monitor compliance with s20 Existing structure inspections monitor compliance with s162
