Activity #2 (write in 2 nd subject of spiral notebooks) What makes a great story?  Think of a story that you have read, heard or seen in a movie…  What made the story interesting?  What emotions did the story evoke in you? (How did it make you feel, happy, sad, laugh, etc)  Was the story told in any unusual ways?  Did the story remind you of any other stories?

With your shadow partner  Discuss the answers to the questions about a story you chose.  Share out with class

Sequence & Time  Flashback  What is it?  An account of an event that happened before the beginning of the story, or earlier point.  What does it do?  Interrupts main action to describe earlier events.  Shows how past events led up to the present situation.  Provides background information about a character or event.  How can I recognize it?  Clue words/phrases: “that summer,” “as a young boy,” or “her earliest memories.”  Keep track of the chronological order of events Event 1 Event 2 Flashback Event 3
