Jamestown - 1607 The first permanent English settlement. Founded in 1607

Mayflower Compact - 1620 Agreement signed by the pilgrims in Plymouth, Massachusetts to consult each other about laws for the colony and promise to work together to make it succeed. First self-government in the colonies.

Declaration of Independence - 1776 Document written by Thomas Jefferson in 1776 declaring the colonies independence from England. It was signed July 4, 1776
