Volunteering  Jobs Timers Clerk of Course Runners Concessions Spirit wear table Set up/take down  Jobs requiring Training Referee Starter Stroke and Turn Judge Computer Operator Head Timer

Below is an explanation of each volunteer job:  Bullpen Supervisors (Clerk of Course) - These volunteers are responsible for putting the event cards in order and assigning lanes to swimmers. This is done prior to the start of the meet usually between 4:30 and 5:00 p.m. These volunteers are also responsible for getting the swimmers in the proper order for their event and to get the swimmers to the block on time. We need 10 at home meets and 2 at away meets.  Timers - There will be three timers per lane. Each group of timers is responsible for recording the swimmers' time in that particular lane. We need 16 timers at home meets and 8 at away meets. You will be provided with a stopwatch and assigned a certain lane to time.  Ribbon Writers - These volunteers would work with the scorers to get the ribbons completed at the meet.  Runners - These volunteers watch the stroke and turn judges and deliver DQ slips and event sheets from the timers to the score table. We need 2 runners per home meet.  Scorers - These volunteers are responsible for recording swimmers' times, placements, DQs and keeping a running tally of points per team. We need four scorers per home meet and two for away meets.

Explanation of each volunteer job (cont.):  Officials (Stroke and Turn Judges and Starter) - The officials watch the swimmers and determine if they are properly swimming each stroke. These judges are required to attend an official's clinic. Each team will provide one official per meet. The starter runs the meet by starting each event. **If you would like to be an official, let us know. We will inform you when there is a training clinic.  Concession Sales - We need 10 volunteers per home meet to set up and run the concession stand. This is a huge moneymaker for the team. We use the money to buy awards at the end of the season and other needed equipment or supplies for our team.  Set up - This requires being at the pool at 4:00 to get set up for the meet. And Put Back- This requires staying a few minutes later to put everything back in place  Parents Spirit Group - This job requires manning the Spirit Tent - passing out spirit items to the kids and selling rally towels and glow bracelets.  Scoreboard - This requires keeping the "event in the water" number, "event in the bullpen" number, and the score of the meet updated.

Failure to comply will result in immediate removal from pool and team  All swimmers are expected to be on good behavior and follow pool rules and obey all coaches  During meets your swimmer are expected to stay in the swimmer’s area  Parents please do not speak to the coaching staff during practices/meets  All issues (compliments/complaints) are expected to go through Alka Lithicum the parent liaison for the team  Please obey all rules of our hosts at away meets  Keep in mind we are all volunteers and who have jobs and other commitments outside of the swim team. We are all here for the common goal of community and sportsmanship, treat each other respectfully and keep volunteer commitments

CHECKLIST: WHAT YOU WILL NEED Expected items – Team suit, cap, and goggles Team Suit – It is generally recommended not to wear this suit to practice more than twice a week to help preserve the suit's color and shape so that it can be used the following year. It is a good idea to wear it at least once a week to get used to swimming in it. The same team suit design is used for two consecutive years. Swim Cap – Wearing caps helps improve swim times and protects the hair from chlorine. Goggles – Wearing goggles helps improve swim times and protects the eyes from chlorine. Kickboard – Size and color are entirely up to the swimmer, coaches will require this for practices Recommendations: The following items are highly recommended to make things go smoothly for your swimmer. Be sure to mark all items with your child's name. Large Towel (you may want to bring two) Practice Suits – This can be the suit your child normally wears to the pool or the beach. You do not have to buy a new practice suit. Practice suits should be one-piece. Practice Caps, Suntan lotion, Bug spray and water bottle Sweats/T Shirts – Swimmers generally like to wear a warm-up or sweat suit before meets and between events to stay warm (even in the summer - the water can be cold in the morning!). The T-shirts are usually worn as the sun comes out. Baby or talcum powder – To "dust" the inside of swim cap. This helps preserve the cap and makes it easier to put on. Special Parent's Note: June and July mornings can be cool at first and then get very warm as the morning progresses. All of our meets will be at outdoor pools. The summer sun will be shining. Therefore, you need to make sure you dress appropriately. Nothing is worse than being hot at a swim meet. Bring visors, hats, sunglasses and folding chairs. Some teams do not have enough chairs for the visitors. Most swim teams have snack bars available for purchase and only accept cash.
