Fruit and Vegetable Intake and Risk of Heart Attack Fruit/Vegetable Intake Persons who ate the most fruits and vegetables (top 20%) had a 20% lower risk of heart attack than people who ate the fewest (bottom 20%). For every serving of fruit or vegetable eaten per day, the risk of heart attack dropped 4%.
