Keys to Success in Psychology

Organising your AS folder You need to purchase an A4 ring-binder together with a set of dividers Research Methods Introduction Biological Psychology Aims / Objectives CognitivePsychology Social Psychology Psychology Developmental Psychology IndividualDifferences

Expectation in the classroom Always be punctual, wait quietly and be fully equipped ready to work Follow instructions first time every time No loud talking, interrupting, teasing and name-calling Listen to others when they are talking Stay on task and allow others to do so Respect your equipment and exercise books - no graffiti or doodling Keep the room tidy - tuck chairs in and don’t drop litter All mobile phones are to be switched off before entering the class room

Equipment The following must be brought to every psychology lesson without fail: 1.Pen, Pencil, Ruler, Eraser 2.Psychology Folder 3.Hole-punched A4 paper – (I can provide if necessary) 4.Textbook 5.Homework when required

Assignments The Psychology exam is an essay based assessment. Therefore, we will be doing a lot of writing this year. Assessments include: past exam questions, précis, quizzes, presentations, essays etc. Assignments must be written into your organisers when it is set All assignments must be completed on time Assignments are due in class at the beginning of the lesson unless otherwise specified In extenuating circumstances, if you require an extension, ask me at least 24 hrs in advance Computer problems are no better than "the dog ate it." If you are doubtful of your luck with computers, please do your work early Missing a lesson does not mean you miss the homework

Assessments There will be regular tests to monitor your understanding of the subject matter and progress. At the end of each half-term there will be a formal assessment - these will be sat under exam conditions Expect to re-sit if you have under-performed

Attendance Arrive on time to all lessons You cannot be excused from lessons for any reason other than illness Don’t book dentist or optician appointments during lesson time Observe official school holidays – don’t book holidays starting before the end of term If you know you will be missing a lesson in advance notify me – I’ll tell you the work If for some reason you are late don’t disturb the class – sit down quietly and come and explain yourself to me at the end of the lesson Missing a lesson does not mean you miss the homework – check with me ( ) or with a friend

Teacher support  I am here to support you – should you need some extra help - LET ME KNOW  Please seek clarification of any assignments or material you don’t understand  You can ask for assistance via  I will attempt to do my best for you – I expect the same in return

No excuses My dog ate it I didn’t understand I didn't feel like doing it I forgot to take it home I was sick I lost track of time There was a fire at our house that burned my homework It was my birthday I was watching Lost I have a solar powered calculator and it was cloudy I'm afraid I simply had better things to do I left it in my shirt and my mother put the shirt for washing. My little sister ate it I made a paper plane out of it and it got hijacked I put it in a safe, but lost the combination

No excuses I had a very difficult choice to make: go to the beach with friends, or sit and do my homework. I chose to go to the beach, because my friends are more important to me than your homework will ever be. I did do it all, but before I got a chance to save, my book crashed and I lost it all. I didn't do it because I didn't want to add to my teacher’s already heavy workload. I made a paper plane out of it and it got hijacked. I put it in a safe, but lost the combination. A sudden wind blew it out of my hand and I never saw it again. The lights in our house went out, and I had to burn it to get enough light to see the fuse box. I didn't do it, because I didn't want the other kids in the class to look bad.
