The Battle of Yorktown September-October 1781 Washington’s army easily outnumbered the British forces of 7500 troops The British had control of Yorktown and the surrounding waters The French and Americans continually attacked Yorktown for almost a month When the British realized their cause was lost and attempted to escape, French ships (29) quickly thwarted this effort British reinforcements arrived 5 days later, but the war was over by that time
