Closing of the open range When more ranchers started to move to Texas the grazing land started to shrink. When the barbed wire and the wind mill was invented, they could now fence and water their cattle.

The civil war The industry of cattle is in declining because of the number of men fighting the war. By the end there were large number of cattle and few Texan with money to buy them.

The invention of barbed wire Barb wire was the first technology capable of restraining cattle. Wire fence was a lot cheaper to build than stone fences.
