The 8 Parts of Speech Interjection Verb Adjective Noun Conjunction Adverb Pronouns Preposition

Nouns Nouns are very easy to spot. A noun is a word that names a person, place, thing, or idea. Any object that you can see is a noun; concepts, such as love or hate, are also nouns. Nouns can be classified as common or proper, concrete or abstract, and collective. An easy way to determine if a word is a noun that works most of the time is to add an a or the to it. (the vision, an apple, the turn)

Pronouns Is a word that takes the place of a nouns. Pronouns can almost do anything a noun can do. Pronouns are handy short words because when they are used, nouns don't have to repeat all the time.       There are six kinds of pronouns: personal, demonstrative, indefinite, intensive, reflexive, and interrogative.

Verbs A verb is a word that shows action or being. This is the most important part of a sentence. Action verbs are verbs that show action. Some examples are sleep, eat, run, scream, toss. However, not all verbs are physical; some are mental, such as dream, hear, look, wonder.

Adjectives An adjective describes, or modifies, a noun or pronoun. Adjectives answer three questions about the nouns that it describes: what kind, how many, and which one. A, an, and the are special adjectives called articles. They are the most frequently used adjectives.

Preposition Words that combine with a noun or pronoun to form a phrase are termed prepositions.

Conjunctions A conjunction is a word that joins other words or parts of sentences together. Conjunctions act like glue.

Adverbs Words that modify or describe verbs, adjectives, and other adverbs. An adverb tells how, when, where, and to what extent. To what extent adverbs include how often and how much.

Interjections Interjections are special words that show strong feeling or emotions like horror, disgust, excitement, happiness, shock, sadness, anger, and pain. They usually come at the beginning of a sentence. They add energy to stories.

Examples Nouns: hat, communication, Dallas, woman, pen Pronouns: his, hers, he, his, theirs Verbs: look, run, call, jog, throw Adjectives: blue, big, a, the Prepositions: aboard, about, above, across Conjunctions: and, or Adverbs: quickly, tomorrow, fast Interjections: aha, wow, whoop see, oh no

Activity Come to the board and circle nouns. George and Godzilla walked to Papa John's to order a large pepperoni pizza. I left my hat in the car. Lets go to the mall and buy new shoes. Can I have your pickles? What is the weather like?
