An Adverb is a word that modifies a verb, an adjective, or another adverb. For example, in the sentence Ancient Chinese warriors fired very powerful rockets. The adverb would be very because it modifies the adjective powerful. Adverbs answers these four questions How, when, where, and to what extent.

 How?- Patient, loudly, and carefully.  When?-sometimes, daily, and always.  Where?- inside, there, and everywhere.  To what extent?-extremely, nearly, and almost.  There are many different positions of adverbs.  Some of the adverbs come after the verb, before the verb, and at the beginning of the sentence.  After verb- The rocket ascended suddenly. Suddenly comes after the verb ascended. In soe cases, suddenly can come at the beginning of the sentence or before the verb.

 Adverbs that modify adjectives or other adverbs.  Intensifiers usually answer the question to what extent.  Examples of intensifiers are almost, extremely, quite, so, usually, especially, nearly, really, too, and very.  Adverbs in writing tell when, to what extent, or tells how something or someone is.  Many adverbs are formed by adding ly to adjectives.
