Republican Platform 2012

Preamble America needs to preserve the traditional independence and rights of the states while having an effective national government. American dream is at risk Americans face burdens as the federal government expands Believe government should be smaller and smarter, celebrate success, entrepreneurship, innovation Support Romney in 2012 presidential election – return government to its proper role – keep taxation, litigation, regulation to a minimum – lift up the middle class – support men and women in uniform – follow the Constitution Jefferson’s vision of “wise and frugal government”

Education Parents are responsible Spending on education isn’t justified Accountability without spending will improve the education system Establishing charter schools and providing a choice of schools, instead of strengthening public schools Federal government shouldn’t be involved in higher education financial aid, and should be provided from a private sector Students should attend the college they can afford, not a school they are smart enough to attend but can’t afford.

Science/Technology Support investment in biomedical research Pro sex education at young age Expanded support for stem cell research without embryonic stem cells Pro-Life: Unborn child has right to live Tax payer dollars to nuclear reactors Privatizing NASA No carbon rationing policies Fund EPA’s war on coal No greenhouse regulations Do not believe strongly in global warming

Health Care Taking care of one’s health is an individual responsibility. Support federal investment in healthcare delivery systems and solutions. Support the ability of all organizations to provide, purchase, or enroll in healthcare coverage consistent with their religious & moral beliefs. Support the rights of parents to consent to medical treatment for their children. Oppose government-run healthcare that won’t protect the physician-patient relationship, won’t promote competition, and won’t promote healthcare quality & choice. Oppose tax discrimination against the individual purchase of insurance

Economy The economy should not be restrained by the government. Government’s role in an economy should be at a minimum because restrictions stop economic growth The individual should not rely on government funded programs Government funded programs are destroying the USA.

Economy Maximum economic freedom and free enterprise Small business and entrepreneurship Less government action directly with businesses and unions Emphasize civil engineering, transportation, and necessary infrastructure Tax reduction Emphasis on international trade

Environment and Energy All of the effort put into going green has been a huge success Encourage use of agriculture to reduce pollution Committed to domestic energy independence Energy sector is a boost to jobs Support the production of nuclear power, clean coal, solar, wind, geothermal, hydropower, as well as drilling for oil and natural gas the environment
