Progress of Statewide Network North Texas Regional P-16 Council December 4, 2012 Fort Worth, TX

What Are the Outcomes for AVATAR? After a “regional pipeline” of key leaders and educators are identified in each of the 12 participating regions, each partnership will: 1.Establish shared regional college and career readiness foundation/understandings 2.Use regional data to guide decision-making 3.Design and implement a vertical alignment action plan which will include critical conversations 4.Design and implement a sustainability plan 5.Prepare students for college and career success

Student Success Assessments Dual Credit, Early College High Schools Student Support Services Educational Policies and Practices Classroom Instruction, Textbooks, Grading, etc. Discipline Specific Course Curriculum Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills Impact of Developmental Education and Texas Success Initiative Dual Credit, Early College High Schools Student Support Services Educational Policies and Practices Classroom Instruction, Textbooks Grading, etc. Discipline Reference Course Profiles College & Career Readiness Standards SecondaryPost-Secondary Graduate College/Career Ready Graduate Career Ready

Phase Three: The Statewide Network At the Training of Trainers Meeting on August 13 th, 86 regional partners from 12 regions across the state were trained to implement the AVATAR process throughout Texas. Now 13 partnerships are active, studying regional data and developing strategies to further alignment.

Phase Three: The Statewide Network Mathematics ESC 2, Citizens for Educational Excellence, TAMU-Corpus Christi, Del Mar College, & Calallen ISD working on vertical alignment of curriculum. ESC 9, Midwestern State University, Vernon College, Burkburnett ISD, Wichita Falls ISD, Iowa Park CISD, and Vernon ISD continue work on alignment in mathematics and ELA. ESC 10, Dallas CCCD, Brookhaven College, & Dallas ISD continuing focus on mathematics & chemistry. ESC 14, Abilene Regional P-16 Council, Cisco College, Ranger College, Western Texas College, Abilene Christian University, McMurry University, Roscoe Collegiate ECHS, Albany ISD, Anson ISD, Clyde-Green Springs ISD, Cooper ISD, Merkel ISD, Wylie ISD, & Roscoe ISD are studying transitions from high school to college in learning mathematics. ESC 16, Panhandle P-16 Council, West Texas A&M University, Amarillo College, Clarendon College, Frank Phillips College, Amarillo ISD, Borger ISD, & Canyon ISD seek professional development on alignment that will boost achievement in mathematics. Region 20, P16 Plus Council of Greater Bexar County, UT- San Antonio, San Antonio College, Palo Alto College, & Harlandale ISD seek interventions to assure student success in College Algebra with participation of ELA as well as mathematics teachers.

Phase Three: The Statewide Network English Language Arts ESC 6, Sam Houston State University, Lone Star College System, Buffalo ISD, Magnolia ISD & Huntsville ISD working on alignment of English III and IV with College English. ESC 9, Midwestern State University, Vernon College, Burkburnett ISD, Vernon ISD, Iowa Park CISD, & Wichita Falls ISD continue work on alignment in ELA & mathematics. ESC 11, Hill College, & Burleson ISD work on alignment in ELA with focus on consistency of expectations in writing. ESC 12, McLennan Community College, Texas State Technical College, Waco ISD, La Vega ISD, Midway ISD, Robinson ISD, Reicher Catholic School, & Baylor University are working on ELA alignment, considering a common rubric for composition. ESC 13, Austin Community College, Austin ISD, & St. Edwards University are taking a multilevel approach to transitions related to study of ELA. ESC 15, San Angelo P-16+ Partnership, Howard College, Angelo State University, Eden CISD, & San Angelo ISD seek a resource document that can guide ELA alignment in the region.

Phase Three: The Statewide Network Science ESC 1, Upper Rio Grande Valley P-16, UT- Pan Am, South Texas College, & Pharr San Juan Alamo ISD work on transition counseling for success in chemistry. ESC 10, UNT, Dallas CCCD, Brookhaven College, & Dallas ISD continue focus on chemistry & mathematics. ESC 11, UNT, TCC, & Fort Worth ISD continue professional development in chemistry.

Phase Three: The Statewide Network Awareness ESC 7, Stephen F. Austin University, Kilgore College, & Kilgore ISD are working on awareness video featuring three previous years of alignment work.
