Kindergarten “Child’s Friend” Sofia, BULGARIA Homage to Cezanne

This activity is an example of the way we get children acquainted with prominent European artists and the way art reflects the world around us. We choose one of the famous artists, whose paintings can be appreciated by young children and which depict human lifestyle, emotions, activities and ways of communication, as well Nature in all it’s varieties. We show the children a reproduction album, or project on screen selected images. During the lesson, we talk about our impressions and the feelings the pictures have awakened in us. We try to verbally describe the picture, using a variety of adjectives, and naming as many colors and shades as we can. Then we go on using the artist’s creations in the different subject lessons:  We invent and tell short stories about what we see on the picture, (what might have happened before, or what could have happened after. What is the mood of the portrayed person and what is the cause for it, etc..)  We talk about Nature (flora, fauna, climate and different phenomena)  We draw our own original pictures inspired by the artist’s work and the colors used. ( In this occasion, our pictures were inspired by Cezanne in homage of the 200 years from his birth. These drawings are published in the special celebration catalogue of Cezanne’s Museum in Aix en Province, France.) Please, go ahead to see our drawings…
