PLANTS.
Photosynthesis Leaves are green because they contain small bodies in the cells called chloroplasts. The chloroplasts contain a green pigment called chlorophyll.
Photosynthesis and Cellular Respiration
Draw this in your notes:
Plants People and animals need oxygen to live. Green plants make the oxygen in the air we breathe. How do plants make oxygen? Plants take in carbon dioxide.
Learning Objectives To identify and describe the function (job) of different parts of flowering plants. To explore what plants need to live and grow.
Plant Notes 2/24/12. Plant Needs All plants need the following items: All plants need the following items: Carbon Dioxide Carbon Dioxide Water Water Sunlight.
Sources of Energy All living things need energy All cells need energy to carry out their functions.
Photosynthesis. In this activity you will: Learn about the process of photosynthesis Write a paragraph describing how plants use photosynthesis to live.
How Plants Live and Grow
Unit 9C and 9D Lesson 1 Photosynthesis Objectives: to learn the different parts of the plant, to learn that light is the energy source for photosynthesis,
Photosynthesis Objective 2: The student will demonstrate an understanding of living systems and the environment. (7.8) Science concepts. The student knows.
Photosynthesis Notes 1)On your notes, define photosynthesis. You can use your book! 2)Answer: Photosynthesis is the process by which a cell captures energy.
A. chloroplasts b. leaves c. nucleus d. cell membrane 1.
NAME THE PLANT PART Take in water and nutrients from the soil.
Photosynthesis Photosynthesis is the process by which plants make their own food.
What is Photosynthesis? What is the Process? Goal: To use pictures and words to explain the following: a)What is photosynthesis? b)How does the process.

Presentation transcript:

Photosynthesis Overview How plants create energy. The process by which plants take in CO2 and H2O in the presence of sunlight to produce chemical energy using Chlorophyll. Reactants = CO2 + H2O + light energy must also be present but is not considered a reactant. Products = Sugar (C6H12O6) + O2

Photosynthesis Reactants Plants get CO2 from the air through tiny holes in leaves. Plants get H2O from the ground using roots to draw it up. They get energy form the sun. (Electromagnetic) Chlorophyll is necessary for plants to carry out Photosynthesis.

Photosynthesis Products Plants release Oxygen through the same tiny holes that they take in carbon dioxide. Photosynthesis also produces sugar (C6H12O6).

Photosynthesis Sugar What is the sugar used for? To grow (stems, leaves, branches, etc.) To reproduce (fruit, seeds, shoots, pollen, etc.) For protection (poisons, toxins, armor, spikes, thorns, etc.)

Draw Photosynthesis On the back of your notes draw the process of photosynthesis.

Why is Photosynthesis so important? Write down at least 2 reasons.

Why is Photosynthesis so important? It is the only way to convert the suns energy into food. The sun is the source of almost all energy on Earth. It also purifies our air taking out poisonous CO2 and replacing it with Oxygen. Without photosynthesis everyone and everything would die.
