Revision – A Case Study of an LDC - Malawi L/O: Summarise the Malawian Case Study Revision Style

Malawi Originally known as Nyasaland, and ruled by the British from 1891. Joined with North and South Rhodesia to create Central African Federation. It became a republic in 1964. Ruled by Doctor Hastings Banda. Now a multiparty democracy.

Light at the end of a long tunnel?? Classified as a low income country as debts rose to 300% of its income. Eligible under the HIPC scheme but failed to meet conditions under the IMF. Recently £2 billion of debts scrapped. Now can begin to improve public service and welfare. Achieving the MDGs. Light at the end of a long tunnel??
