Fill in the top box of your course sheet – write neatly. If your address has changed or is incorrect, mark it out and write your new/correct address.
Select your P.E. or Sports class. Only choose ONE. Put a check mark by the appropriate class (boys or girls).
Do NOT start filling out the next section on your course sheet yet. 7th graders will get ONE elective besides their P.E./Sports elective for a total of 2. Fine Arts Requirement: All students are required to take one year of fine arts (art/band/choir/theatre) during middle school. If you are in multi-media this year, you will need to select a fine arts class this year or next year. Elective course descriptions can be found on the back side of the course sheet, and there are video descriptions on the HMS website under the Parent and Student tabs. All electives are offered on a limited basis due to class size restrictions. Electives that require an application and selection process: 1. Broadcast Media I (school news) 2. Honors Art (available if you are in art this year) 3. Yearbook (should enjoy writing/technology/photography and be able to commit some time outside of the school day to attend school events) Applications are due to Mrs. Schneider (located in Ms. Gipson’s old office) by Friday, March 14 th (the Friday before Spring Break).
Rank your top three choices and number them 1 through 3 with “1” being your first choice on your course sheet now. If you are selected for an application elective, your schedule will be changed this summer. We will use the rankings you put down on this course sheet to determine which class to drop for application electives OR if your 1 st choice elective is too full.
7 th graders are required to take the following core classes: ELA: ELA is double-blocked, meaning you will have it twice a day with the same teacher. It counts for 2 of your 7 classes. So when you get your schedule in August and see ELA on it twice, remember it is not a mistake! Math Science Social Studies These core classes have already been selected for you. Pre-AP ELA and Pre-AP math are available for 7 th graders. ▪ These placements will be made at the end of the school year. ▪ They will be determined by the placement rubric (placement test scores, STAAR scores, unit assessment averages, teacher recommendations), academic departments, and administration.
Please sign and date your course sheet now. Take this home tonight and have your parent/guardian sign and date it. Turn it in to your social studies teacher by this Friday. If we do not get your signed course sheet back, we will pick your electives for you.
Go to the HMS homepage and click on the Skyward icon. Login in to Skyward. -Your login ID is your campus ID number (located on your course sheet). -Use the password you have created for your account.
If a screen pops-up like the one below, click Later. Then click Open Student Access.
Click on Courses for
Click on the Update Requests tab.
You will notice that your core classes are already selected, and you have 4 total requested. Click on the P.E./Sports class you selected on your course sheet. It will highlight that row in blue. Then click Add Course. You should now have 5 courses selected.
Click on your #1 ranked course on your course sheet and then Add Course. You should now have 6 total courses requested.
Click on the Alternates tab. Click on the #2 ranked elective on your course sheet; click add course. Click on the #3 ranked elective on your course sheet; click add course.
You should now have 6 requested/scheduled courses and 2 alternates selected. If this is the case, you are done and can logout of Skyward in the top right hand corner.
Take your course sheet home and get it signed; they are due Friday to your social studies teacher. This is not your final schedule (just course requests). Although we try to give you your top choices, you are not guaranteed to get the classes you selected today. That is why we have you rank several choices. Final schedules will be handed out the first day of school next year.
