Goals

1 Review updates on standards implementation and assessments.

2 Become familiar with the shifts in Ohio’s social studies standards.

3 Understand how the shifts can impact student learning.

4 Receive an understanding of the social studies quality review rubric.

Updates on Standards Implementation Districts should be fully aligned to the new standards for the school year. ODE has transition tools and resources available in its website.website

The new generation of assessments will be implemented in the spring of Updates on Assessment

End-of-year social studies tests will be given for grades four and six.

Updates on Assessment End-of-course exams will be given in high school for American history and American government.

Establishes end-of-course tests in American History and American Government Requires interim exams until state end-of- course tests go into effect Revises social studies unit requirements for graduation

Changes to standards and model curriculum are posted ODE revised and posted syllabi and model curriculum for the high school American History and American Government courses. ODE has also posted the revised model curricula for grades four and eight.

Not later than July 1, 2013 Adopt interim end-of-course examinations

Districts utilize available ODE resources to begin planning for interim exams for American history and government courses. Resources include: Standards Model Curriculum Gap Analysis District Interim Tests
