Welcome, parents!! Jennifer McLeod 6 th grade Language Arts 6 th grade Social Studies 6 th grade AGP Language Arts Enrichment Blazers Team Leader

 Bachelor’s and Master’s degree from Indiana University  This is my ninth year teaching 6 th grade Language Arts at Springton Lake Middle School, and my first year teaching Social Studies (dual certification)  As a parent myself, I realize how important your kids (my students) are, and how much you want them to be successful and happy.  I have also managed to sneak quite a few pictures of my own kids into this presentation.  6 th Grade Social Studies is a yearlong course infused with basic geography skills and the development of reading and writing strategies and skills  Course content includes the study of the history, economics, government, and physical and cultural geography of three regions: Europe, Asia, and Africa. Course Description

 Current Junior Scholastic and Scope Magazines  Current articles on world events  One historical fiction book for each of the three main continents we study: Europe, Asia, and Africa Social Studies Reading Materials

 Weekly “Read to Learn” articles and activities will be the bulk of the homework  Given early each week, due each Friday Homework for SS

 For both SS and LA, students write their homework for the entire week on the first day of the week (usually Monday)  This allows them to plan their time accordingly. Homework (continued)

 Grades for both Social Studies and Language Arts are calculated using these categories:  Classwork: 30%  Projects: 30%  Tests: 30%  Homework: 10% Grading

 After school help is available most Tuesdays and Thursdays.  Please have your student check in with me ahead of time to get a pass. After School Help
