Stating the Obvious Informatics is increasingly recognised as a core function of the NHS. Informatics is more business critical every year. The safety of patients relies very heavily on information that supports clinical and management decision making, and therefore on the Informaticians that handle and process it. Done well: informatics is a key contribution to delivering safe and effective healthcare. Done badly: informatics can kill.

UKCHIP is the regulatory body for health informatics professionals working or aspiring to work in the UK. UK Council for Health Informatics Professions

Health Informatics is recognised as a valued profession throughout the United Kingdom. All persons who spend a substantial proportion of their role or time working in health informatics in or for the UK should be registered with UKCHIP and thereby certified as professionals who meet defined standards of professional conduct and competence. Vision

Realising the Vision UKCHIP will realise its vision by: Promoting the advancement and dissemination of knowledge about health informatics. Defining and agreeing the standards of professional conduct and competence required of people working in health informatics. Publishing and maintaining a register of health informatics professionals in the UK. Demonstrating its own professional authority and legitimacy through accreditation of its own processes and procedures.

Benefits of Registration Ability to demonstrate to your employer, peers and others through your entry on the public register that you are an informatics professional. Demonstrate that you are fit to practice, abide by a professional code of conduct and ethics, and are committed to ongoing and structured professional development in the interests of providing safe, effective and high quality services to support patient care. Registration Certificate To go here

Benefits for HIS BC Health Informatics Services are people based organisations Registration of individuals within a HIS adds a personal quality mark differentiating your service You will know that your informatics specialists have been assessed independently against agreed national standards You will know that your informatics specialists have signed up to a professional code of conduct and to an annual programme of CPD

Registration Registration is currently voluntary, but is increasingly a requirement of employers. Applications only approved following qualified assessment against defined professional standards and competencies. Registration is retained only by maintenance of standards and competence, together with continuing professional development. Registration can be withdrawn for misconduct.
