Art – With Mrs Jones Clay rain forest animals. Explore pencils and pastels. Science During this half term we will be investigating and discussing plant life and animal habitats. Phonics The whole class will continue with phase 5 graphemes and words whilst all Y2 children will also be following the KS1 spelling pathway which is appropriate for their age group. English We will be learning about story structure using Augusta’s Smile. PSHE This half term we will be looking at aspects of keeping safe and looking after others. Geography Comparing the jungle to other habitats in the world. PE Ball Games Dance Leap into Life Educational Visits: We wont be going on a trip this half term but will have an educational encounter of the animal kind! Design Technology We will be making, planning and evaluating musical instruments. Maths We will continue to focus on a range of mathematical contexts including: Number and place value. Addition and subtraction. Multiplication and division. Money and measure Geometry. Fractions. Computing During this half term we will be learning about using Google to find information. Music Using instruments to compose jungle music.

Links to New Curriculum Science During years 1 and 2, pupils should be taught to use the following practical scientific methods, processes and skills through the teaching of the programme of study content: asking simple questions and recognising that they can be answered in different ways observing closely, using simple equipment performing simple tests identifying and classifying using their observations and ideas to suggest answers to questions gathering and recording data to help in answering questions. In Y2 pupils should be taught to: explore and compare the differences between things that are living, dead, and things that have never been alive identify that most living things live in habitats to which they are suited and describe how different habitats provide for the basic needs of different kinds of animals and plants, and how they depend on each other identify and name a variety of plants and animals in their habitats, including microhabitats describe how animals obtain their food from plants and other animals, using the idea of a simple food chain, and identify and name different sources of food. Plants: Pupils should be taught to identify and describe the basic structure of a variety of common flowering plants, including trees. and describe how plants need water, light and a suitable temperature to grow and stay healthy. Animals and their habitats: Pupils should be taught to identify and name a variety of common animals including fish, amphibians, reptiles, birds and mammals and to identify and name a variety of common animals that are carnivores, herbivores and Omnivores. They should also be taught to notice that animals, including humans, have offspring which grow into adults, find out about and describe the basic needs of animals, including humans, for survival (water, food and air). Geography Human and physical geography: use basic geographical vocabulary to refer to key physical features, including: beach, cliff, coast, forest, hill, mountain, sea, ocean, river, soil, valley, vegetation and key human features, including: city, town, village, factory, farm, house, office, port, harbour and shop Geographical skills and fieldwork use world maps, atlases and globes to identify the United Kingdom and its countries, as well as the countries, continents and oceans studied at this key stage;
