Our concept was that we could effectively make a solar powered light that attaches to a hard hat and will provide a worker with adequate light when working at night after charging the batteries with the light on their head in the day. The purpose of this concept is simple. Provide light at night and it’s definitely a bonus that the energy you use to power this light is from the sun!

The solar hat is made through a series of simple steps. Once the materials, a hard hat, and led light with a battery pack attached filled with rechargeable batteries, wire, heat shrink, tape, a solar panel, Velcro tabs and a soldering iron are collected we start by soldering the wires into the battery pack and soldering them to the wires attached to the solar panel after that the heat shrink is used to tidy the wires up and then tape is added for a more cleanly look. Now all that’s left to do is attach the light system to the hat with the Velcro tabs. The solar hat is available assembled or in the D.I.Y version. The main process that was followed when designing ‘The Solar Hat’ was… Do all documentation and design work involved so that when the prototype is assembled nothing goes wrong, Assemble and then finally finishing up by making sure the hat is in it’s best presentable form.
