ETHNIC DIVERSITY SURVEY
Survey Objectives to provide information on ethnic diversity in Canada; to provide information to better understand how Canadians of different ethnic backgrounds interpret and report their ethnicity; to explore various ways to measure ethnicity in order to inform future data collection.

PlanningAssumptions Planning Assumptions 2001 Census will provide frame for the sample selection Sampling unit to be individual Persons aged 15 and over Computer Assisted Telephone Interviewing (CATI) Achieved sample size of 40,000 individuals 35 minute interviews; conducted in 9 languages
Survey Design Select the sample based on answers to the 2001 Census ethnic origin and place of birth questions Start with broad categories of ethnic responses Use the place of birth variables to further stratify by generational status in Canada (1st, 2nd & 3+)
