Justification of the TAN-AIM Initiative Improve decision making - Lack of enough agricultural and livestock development data and information flow among stakeholders (i.e. government, farmers, private sector, and donors for agricultural productivity growth. Improve coordination, communication, partnership, and create synergies - Poor coordination, communication and fragmentation of the agricultural investments in Tanzania among players

Overall Goal and Objective To improve the information flow of all agricultural and livestock investments and close the knowledge gap within the sector by understanding linkages between the relevant stakeholders Objectives Collect spatial data comprehensive spatial data related to investments/activities/initiatives and partnership information related to investments in the agricultural and livestock sector and sub-sector value chain players in Tanzania Mainland.

Expected Outcome of the Project Better inform the Tanzania’s investment strategy and country’s long term plans. Strengthen the ongoing role the different players and stakeholders in the agricultural and livestock sector in the country. Establishment of an Agribusiness Information and Management Centre (AGIMAC)- Initially kept by UDBS – later transferred to Agricultural Delivery Agency (ADA)

Scope of Work and Focus Collect spatial data of agricultural and livestock investments/activities/initiatives and partnership, Understand the key players and other stakeholders in the agricultural and livestock sector, Understand the agricultural and livestock sector and sub-sector value chain players. Key staple food and live stocks used both for commercial purposes, food security and livelihood excluding those used for subsistence(see tool for selected products .

Key Questions to be Answered Who are the main investors and players? Where are they investing in Tanzania?- large or small holder What are they doing in the whole value chain? With whom are they working?

Guiding Principles Ownership by the government Stakeholder Consultation – national level, regional and district levels – solicit feedback and comments Phased approach – learn and update Prioritization – selective and important information for the PMT tool categorization – not answer all the questions(selected products) Sustainability – not a one time event: data to be regularly updated

Data Collection Process Divided into 2 Phases Phase 1: Project Planning and Pilot Phase (Morogoro) Secondary Data Collection and Pilot Phase Phase 2: Full Mapping (July 2013 to December 2014) Cluster I: Northern zone – Kilimanjaro, Manyara and Arusha Cluster II: Eastern zone – Dar es Salaam, Coast and Tanga Cluster III: Southern Highland zone – Iringa, Mbeya and Njombe Cluster IV: Western zone- Geita, Kigoma, Rukwa, Katavi Cluster V: Central zone – Dodoma, Singida, Tabora and Simiyu Cluster VI: Lake zone – Kagera, Mwanza, Mara and Shinyanga Cluster VII: Southern zone – Lindi, Mtwara, and Ruvuma

Current Status and Next Steps Completed the Planning phase Identified resources and completing secondary data collection in key organizations in Dar es Salaam.-except DPs Next Steps Upload Data on the PMT tool Hold a wider Stakeholder meeting and Share the secondary data results.
