Why did Kevin’s mom like the idea? Because they can grow their own organic vegetables, it’ll be good exercise, and the family can spend more time together. Why didn’t Kevin like the idea? Because they could easily buy organic food in the supermarket, he gets enough exercise playing basketball, and he didn’t like losing his computer time.

One Sunday afternoon my family was watching a TV program. In the program, some students were harvesting their potatoes in a vegetable garden. One student said,

"Our potatoes are organic, so they are healthy and delicious. I'm going to make French fries with these potatoes. French fries are my favorite snack." He looked happy and proud.

After we watched TV, we had a talk about making a family vegetable garden. Mr. Jones: Why don't we grow some vegetables in a garden? Mrs. Jones: That sounds like fun. We can grow our own organic vegetables.

Kevin: But we can easily buy organic food in the supermarket these days. Mrs. Jones: Yes, we can. But taking care of a vegetable garden will be good exercise.

Kevin: I play basketball almost every day. That's enough exercise. Mrs. Jones: I think it will be a special experience for us. We can spend more time together.

Kevin: I have to go to the library to study on weekends. Most of all, I don't like losing my computer time. Mr. Jones: Taking care of a vegetable garden won't take you much time. It'll be fun.

Kevin: Okay, but just this once. I said, "Okay, but just this once," but I have gardened for three years. The best part of growing vegetables is eating them.

For example, I pick potatoes, and I wrap them in foil. Then I put them in an open fire. The potatoes are ready after a while and they taste really good.
