MEANING OF COURAGE Courage can be defined as the firmness of mind and moral backbone to finish task in the face of oppositions, obstacles and challenges. Courage can also be defined as the ability and willingness to confront fear,pain,danger, uncertainty, or intimidation. A courageous man will bother less to engage in task irrespective of its dangerous nature. Some examples of courageous Nigerians are:  Chief Anthony Enahoro  Chief Gani Fawehinmi  Professor Chinua Achebe  Festus Keyamo  Professor Wole Soyinka  Chief Femi Falana etc.

T YPES OF C OURAGE There are three types of courage. These are: 1. Physical courage 2. Moral courage 3. Spiritual courage Physical courage: This is the ability and willingness to use physical efforts to get things done. It entails the possession of power and strength by individuals. Examples are mountain climbing, lifting of an object, wrestling, fighting, cutting down a tree etc. Moral courage: This is the ability to express what is right in spite of the circumstances surrounding it. When we choose to what is right irrespective of pressure to do otherwise, we have moral courage. Spiritual courage: This is the courage to exhibit or follow one’s path or line according to his teachings and doctrines. It involves the willingness of an individual to choose a religion without being afraid of whatever consequences his actions might cause.

ATTRIBUTES OF A COURAGEOUS PERSON 1.Commitment: A courageous person is always committed to his work in order to achieve his or her goals within the schedule. 2.Endurance: A courageous person has strong will- power to endure all difficulties and challenges in the course of his or her life. 3.Determination: Persons who are determined keep doing their work even when the task is difficult. They hope that they will succeed makes them work harder. 4.Diligence : This is the ability of being able to do a task carefully and thoroughly. A diligent person works hard and does not waste man hour or damage equipment. 5.Boldness: This is the quality of not being afraid to do or say something which one does right. 6.Steadfastness: A courageous person is unrelenting in his quest to succeed everyday.

IMPORTANCE OF BEING COURAGEOUS 1.Courage brings peace and stability to the society. 2.Courage helps to remove unpleasant laws in the society. 3.Courage brings freedoms and comfort to the people. 4.Courage removes the fear of oppression and dictatorship. 5.Courage allows room for promotion and development.
