PARK PROJECT WHAT WILL YOU BUILD?

DAY ONE (MONDAY)

You work at the “Make Meridian Better Center.” The director of the center has asked you to design a park in which you must determine the area and cost of materials to build it. Your design will be built with a scale of 1 inch equal to 100 feet (this means you’ll need a ruler!). Your park can have a theme if you wish, and can include items ranging from pools, sidewalks, fields, rides, trees, and playgrounds. Designing your park means you must submit a diagram/layout of park, a written proposal explaining the pros/cons of your park and why it should be built, and chart explaining the area, materials, and cost associated with your park.

At minimum, your park must meet the following criteria:  2 squares  2 rectangles  2 right triangles  2 non-right triangles  2 parallelograms  2 circles

The director gives you a list of approved materials that you can use to build areas/shapes of your park. The prices included are the cost per square foot of the material.  Wood $0.40  Steel $3.65  Aluminum $0.41  Dirt $0.20  Plastic $0.80  Granite $14.47  Glass $3.50  Sod $0.72  Turf $3.41  Cement $3.52 Additional Items:  Maple Tree $67.00  Pine Tree $65.00  Juniper Bush $45.00

In order for the proposal to be submitted on time, you must have it completed by FRIDAY, MARCH 20 th. Here is the timeline the director has given you so that he can check your work day-by-day to make sure it is going to be approved for construction: Monday Pencil Sketch of Park Design, Label Dimensions on required 12 shapes (15 points) Tuesday Calculate Perimeter, Area, Materials, Cost for required 12 shapes (48 points) Wednesday Finalize Calculations, Finalize Park Design with Color (5 points) Thursday Follow-up Questionnaire/ Written Proposal (12 points) Friday Turn-in Completed Proposal, Watch Wall-E to celebrate making your city a better place! (80 points total)
