Definitions Personal Finance: “The principles and methods that individuals use to acquire and manage income and assets.” Financial Literacy: “The ability to use knowledge and skills to manage one’s financial resources effectively for lifetime financial security.”
State Standards The Jump $tart National Standards in K-12 Personal Finance Education have been identified as the financial literacy standards for Kansas.
Financial Literacy in Kansas Schools Financial Literacy is integrated into the Math and Social Studies standards K-12. It is also found in several Career Cluster Pathway’s, including; Human Services, Business Management and Administration, Finance, Marketing, and others. The course “Consumer and Personal Finance” addresses financial decision-making, consumer rights, budgeting, credit/debt, risk mgt., etc.
School Needs: Survey Results Lack of Curriculum Resources Lack of Staff Training/Staff Development Staff is not Qualified to Teach Limited Teaching Time Courses would not be Funded
