Youth channel group

WHO ARE WE? YOUTH Channel Group is a Non Profit Organisation established in 1994 with the AIM of addressing social issues that affected our community. YCG is Youth Empowerment organization that is based in Tembisa YCG saw the need to develop and empower the youth of today

MISSION TO address social issues that affect the youth on a daily basis e.g. HIV?AIDS, unemployment, crime, teenage pregnancy, STI’s,TB and Gender Based violence To share new ideas and experiences on social and economic issues To Develop Responsible young leaders To be involved in cultural exchange with other countries, sharing experiences To promote and develop a new social manner of the youth about different social issues

GOALS AND OBJECTIVES The overall goal of YCG is to Contribute to the prevention of HIV/AIDS and Gender Based Violence To provide ongoing training to enable the youth to implement programmes that change men’s knowledge, attitude and behavior leading to a decreased in violence and HIV Infection rate To enable youth to engage in advocacy efforts that will encourage community participation in the prevention of violence against woman/children and HIV/AIDS To support all those infected and affected by HIV/AIDS

ACTIVITIES We run different workshops and training on basic HIV/AIDS, Life Skills, Youth Leadership Development, Treatment literacy, counseling and community Home Based Care, as well as Men As Partners for the community We meet with youth to discuss issues that affect them on a daily basis We use edutainment to educate the community on social issues (Drama, Poetry, Music and Dance)

HOW DID WE GET HERE? In the year 2000 YCG was the only youth organisation from S.A that was seconded by NAPWA to perform for delegates at the Durban 2000 International AIDS Conference at the Durban Play House The UNAIDS information department together with the National Department of Education commissioned YCG to do a documentary on HIV/AIDS and youth in S.A, the documentary was titled “TOGETHER WE CAN” and was shown at the UN Head Quarters in New York, USA June 2001 and World Aids day

HOW DID WE GET HERE? In 2006 we performed for the delegates 9th COSATU National Congress including the former deputy president Phumzile Mlambo-Ngcuka9th COSATU National Congress During the launch of the HIV/AIDS National Strategic Plan which was held at Emperors Palace we also performed for delegates from around the world

AWARDS AND RECOGNITION We won and received several awards and recognitions domestically and internationally: 1. The UN-FAO Prix Italia Award for HIV/AIDS 2. The African Heritage Trust Foundation First HIV/AIDS Award 3. The Esselen Park HIV/AIDS Champion Award 4. The SAAYC Best Youth Organisation Award
