But, wait a minute! Let’s extend this to a week, since we don’t go to work on Sunday’s and other holidays, we have extra 20 hrs + the usual 3 hrs. to enrich our day. That’s sound little better, doesn’t it ? These figures also ignore illness, over our lifetime. And, of course, there is time spent watching TV, Surfing, and Gaming, which is 14 to 26 hrs weekly!!!!!!!!!

Do you know how a 70 year life, is generally spent….? 25 years in sleep 8 years in study 6 years in rest and illness 7 years in holiday and recreation 5 in commuting 4 years in eating 3 in traveling/preparation….. 12 years for work….effectively…

OBSTACLES TO EFFECTIVE TIME MANAGEMENT Unclear objectives Being Unorganized Note: You may wish to add personal experiences as examples of one or more of the obstacles to enhance the presentation. There are a lot of things that make it difficult for us to manage our time effectively. Let’s consider some of the most common ones, and see if they apply to us: Unclear objectives – It’s hard to hit a target with your eyes closed, and it’s just as hard to accomplish something when you aren’t exactly clear about what you want to achieve Disorganization – It’s easy to see when your desk is too messy, but sometimes you have to step back and ask yourself if you are taking an organized approach in completing all of your tasks Inability to say “no” – We all want to be as helpful as we can when others need us, but this can mean taking time away from other priorities to do something we may not have planned Inability to say “no”

OBSTACLES TO EFFECTIVE TIME MANAGEMENT Interruptions More interruptions Interruptions – Many times we are in the middle of accomplishing something really important and the telephone rings. These calls can not only take you away from your task, but sometimes they interrupt your train of thought and you can’t return to where you were without retracing your steps More interruptions – We all like to visit with others, but conversations at inappropriate times can cost us time when we have to stop what we are doing and redirect ourselves from our plans Periods of inactivity – As much as we think we are busy, there are times in our day when we are not really doing anything. Recognizing and making use of these times can have a positive effect on our efforts Periods of inactivity

OBSTACLES TO EFFECTIVE TIME MANAGEMENT Too many things at once Stress and fatigue Too many things at once – Many of our tasks are not routines. They require concentration to detail. When we are attempting to do too many different things at one time, each individual task suffers as a result Stress and fatigue – Everyone experiences stress from time to time, and sometimes we actually operate a little better when there is some level of stress. Too much stress, on the other hand, causes our work to suffer and wears us down physically and mentally. Dealing with stress is an important part of time management All work and no play – Most successful people know how to balance work and play. When work takes over your life, you not only give your body little time to re-energize, but you may end up sacrificing the really important things in life like family and friends All work and no play

Does your face and desk seem as if you can always be interrupted… “No” is the word.. Does your face and desk seem as if you can always be interrupted… Learn to Say “No” Don’t take more than you can bite Try and limit time in social calls and events

How to Prioritize? Too many things at once – Many of our tasks are not routines. They require concentration to detail. When we are attempting to do too many different things at one time, each individual task suffers as a result Stress and fatigue – Everyone experiences stress from time to time, and sometimes we actually operate a little better when there is some level of stress. When work takes over your life, you not only give your body little time to re-energize, but you may end up sacrificing the really important things in life like family and friends

Tips for Time Management Get up 15 minutes early Make time for ‘YOURSELF’ Understand your ‘effective time zone’ Deal effectively with interruptions Update your TO DO list daily Do not over schedule Keep Your list in sight Delegate, if possible Get Organized: Paper, e-mail Do difficult tasks first

Tips for Time Management Throw away every information that you think you do not need Think twice before you interrupt anyone, Their time is as valuable as yours Don’t adapt any time wasting practices

Time Management begins with Goal Setting HAVE YOU SET YOUR GOALS ? WHAT DO YOU WANT TO DO IN LIFE ? TO BECOME WHAT YOU WANT TO BECOME, WHAT DO YOU WANT TO LEARN ? ARE YOU REALLY UTILISING TIME EFFECTIVELY TO ACHIEVE YOUR GOALS. WHAT IS THE TIME FRAME YOU HAVE SET YOURSELF TO ACHIEVE YOUR GOALS EG. YOU CANT STUDY FOREVER…OR WAIT FOREVER TO CLEAR A COMPETITIVE EXAM!

WORKING WITH TO DO LISTS Create your list before you start the day 15 minutes of investment will help you everyday End of day: Review status Status C- Completed, T-Transferred, A-Abandoned, I –In progress At the end of day you will get a feeling of accomplishment “TAKE CHARGE OF YOUR LIFE, YOU CAN DO WITH IT WHAT YOU WISH – Plato”

NO EXCUSES Do it Now Prioritize Understand how much time it takes to do a task Not all tasks take time Understand what and why of your procrastination tendency Do not be a last minute decision taker Gather information of a task in advance “If we wait for the moment when everything and absolutely everything is ready, we shall never begin” Be proactive and not reactive - Being proactive is highly motivating

The best time to plant a seed and grow a tree was 20 years ago; the second best time is now. "We spend our entire life wondering why we didn't do this and didn't do that, YOU ARE NOT DEAD! Maybe we did not accomplish something in the past but who says you can't do it now?
