School Effectiveness Questionnaire Application (SEQ) School District of Palm Beach County Designed and developed by: Maria-Alexandra Paladines March 2012 Department of Research, Evaluation, and Assessment in collaboration with the Department of Educational Data Warehouse, Accountability, and School Improvement

The School Effectiveness Questionnaire (SEQ )Group:  The SEQ application would not be possible without the participation of a group of my peers that in different stages of the project shared their knowledge with me. At specific time their guidance and feedback was required.  I would like to mention Mr. Randy Powell, the department manager who was in charge of the logistics of the SEQ,  Dr. Donghai Xie, a research specialist who assisted with the development of the SEQ,  Mr. Jesus Sandoval, a database administrator who was responsible for downloading and preparing the data,  A group of specialists from the Department of Educational Data Warehouse, Accountability, and School Improvement added their support the project.  And finally Mr. Mark Howard, Director of Research, Evaluation, and Assessment who gave me the responsibility of designing and developing the SEQ application for School District of Palm Beach County (SDPBC).

The SEQ provides data that will:  provide the opportunity for staff discussions on the perceived strengths and weaknesses in the school,  assist staff in identifying strategies to improve areas of perceived weakness,  provide information to schools, parents, administrators and the public on how they are doing compared to a standard, to themselves, and to others schools.  allow schools to see a comparison of respondents’ perceptions concerning specific categories of school functioning,

The School Effectiveness Questionnaire Application (SEQ) is available in teachers/staff, and students versions. Next year parents version will also be available. Beginning in December 2011, the SEQ Application is a compound of reports /graphs that is available through the Educational Data Warehouse (EDW). You can access the application through the EDW portal ( by clicking on ‘New Educational Data Warehouse’. After login, click on ‘Families’ and then click on ‘Surveys’. You will find ‘SEQ Report ( School Effectiveness Questionnaire Results – RQOOA0508).

For example questions 34 to 37 are for high schools only. * Questions are classified as the eight (8) categories listed: School Climate High Expectations College Expectations Post-secondary Preparations Individual Concerns Challenging Assignments Community Services Satisfaction with the School * General Information questions are identified as letters A to E

Student Version

The analysis of the SEQ Application is important for planning and indicates perceptions on specific areas of the functioning of the school. The data resulting from the SEQ Application is also important to perceive the strengths and weaknesses of a school. The SEQ Application helps staff identify their school’s potential and create improvement strategies. Why is it important to use the SEQ Application?

The Department if Research, Evaluation, and Assessment is working to provide and enhance the SEQ Application for the teacher and student versions. The parent version of the SEQ Application is being updated and will be available for viewing for school year Thank you Conclusion
