Born in Leipzig, Germany on May 22, 1813, Richard Wagner was born into a good family. His mother a daughter of a baker, and his father, a clerk at the Leipzig police department. Richard had a well off life.
As a child Richard's father died and Wagner was primarily raised by his mother and stepfather. His stepfathers profession: acting and painting. During his time as a child Wagner was enrolled in good Schools. His stepfathers interest in the arts motivated him as a child. It was not until the age of 16 he Began to study music seriously, he entered a university in Leipzig Germany where he began to compose Operas. Childhood
Wagner’s operas are mainly what he is known for today. Although most of his operas left him in debt, Wagner kept on writing. Unlike most opera composers Wagner wrote both the Libretto ( lyrics of the opera) and the music. Most of his styles where based upon German myths and legends.
