For those here that don’t know what is gospel soul, Gospel soul is music that is written to express beliefs about Christian life, as well as to give a Christians to know more about their beliefs in music form.

Gospel Soul is a music genre that originated from the United States of America. Usually African people use this type of music in churches. This is how they express their feelings to God. Many of the lyrics in Gospel Soul songs refer to religious nature.

Some artists like: Stevie Wonder, Ray Charles, James Brown, Aretha Franklin, Amy Grant and Michael W. Smith.

Gospel soul follows the origin of the rhythm and blues genre. It was popular in the 1960's in the USA like in New york, Chicago and Detroit. Soul singing uses a lot of emotion in to the singer. Soul is often religious. Soul singers use a variety of tones from gentle, smooth to raspy and harsh in order to show the singers emotion. Soul music invloves heavily with Call and & Response routine. Usually the singers calls out the phrase or saying nad another singer provides a response. It is not common to hear the same note, phrases and rhythms throughout the song. Repitition is a major role in gospel soul music. There are many instruments to choose from such as the pian, guitar and drums. The use of horns like the trumpet and the saxaphone play a huge role in Gospel Soul music

Everyone's feeling pretty It's hotter than July Though the world's full of problems They couldn't touch us even if they tried From the park I hear rhythms Marley's hot on the box Tonight there will be a party On the corner at the end of the block Didn't know you Would be jammin' until the break of dawn I bet nobody ever told you that you would be jammin' until the break of dawn You would be jammin' and jammin' and jammin', jam on They want us to join their fighting But our answer today Is to let all our worries Like the breeze through our fingers slip away Peace has come to Zimbabwe Third World's right on the one Now's the time for celebration 'Cause we've only just begun Didn't know that you Would be jammin' until the break of dawn Bet you nobody ever told you that you Would be jammin' until the break of dawn You would be jammin' and jammin' and jammin', jam on Bet you nobody ever told you that you (We're in the middle of the makin's of the master blaster jammin') Would be jammin' until the break of dawn I know nobody told you that you (We're in the middle of the makin's of the master blaster jammin') Would be jammin' until the break of dawn We're jammin', jammin', jammin', jam on

You ask me am I happy Well as matter of fact I can say that I'm ecstatic 'Cause we all just made a pact We've agreed to get together Joined as children in Jah When you're moving in the positive Your destination is the brightest star You didn't know that you (We're in the middle of the makin's of the master blaster jammin') Would be jammin' until the break of dawn I bet you nobody ever told you that you (We're in the middle of the makin's of the master blaster jammin') Would be jammin' until the break of dawn Oh, Oh, Oh, Oh, Oh, you (We're in the middle of the makin's of the master blaster jammin') Would be jammin' until the break of dawn Don't you stop the music, oh no, (We're in the middle of the makin's of the master blaster jammin') Na, na na... (We're in the middle of the makin's of the master blaster jammin') Nobody told you Oh, Oh, Oh, you (We're in the middle of the makin's of the master blaster jammin') Would be jammin' until the break of dawn I bet you if someone approached you (We're in the middle of the makin's of the master blaster jammin') yesterday to tell you that you would be jammin' you would not believe it because you never thought that you would be jammin' Oh, Oh, Oh, Oh, (We're in the middle of the makin's of the master blaster jammin') jammin' 'til the break of dawn Oh, Oh, Oh, You may as well believe what you are feeling (We're in the middle of the makin's of the master blaster jammin') because you feel your body jammin' (We're in the middle of the makin's of the master blaster jammin') Oh, Oh, you would be jammin' until the break of dawn (We're in the middle of the makin's of the master blaster jammin') (We're in the middle of the makin's of the master blaster jammin')

7. Discuss the instruments used in each section and what role they are playing Introduction- The song starts with the drums playing a quick solo with loud and short notes then plays the beat with low and short notes with the bass guitar playing the riff with low pitched and long notes, the drums always play loud and low pitched notes for an instrument to join in the song or to go to the next verse. Keyboard then joins in the song by playing a long and higher note each time after the bass pauses to play the riff again. Later on the saxophones and the trumpets joins in by playing an off beat improvisation with high pitched and long notes. 1 st verse- The first verse is played by the lead singer with the drums keeping the same beat as the introduction and the bass guitar playing the riff. Chorus- The chorus is played by the drums, bass and the keyboard. The drums and the bass play the same notes as the 1 st verse and the keyboard playing a high and long notes. Before the chorus ends the drums play loud and low pitched notes for the bass guitar and the keyboard to play a short and loud noted solo. 2 nd verse- The second verse is played the same way as the 1 st verse. The vocals join in the song by singing a long and soft harmonic sound, trumpets and saxophones also join in the song by playing the same notes as they did in the introduction.

2 nd Chorus- This chorus is played the same as the first chorus, the difference is that in this chorus the trumpets and saxophones join in by playing a long notes going lower and lower. Also the vocals sing a call and answer to the lead singer and sing a few of the same lines. 3 rd verse- The third verse starts by the same instruments playing the same notes as the introduction and then played as the 2 nd verse. 3 rd chorus- The third chorus is played with the same instruments as the 2 nd chorus and is repeated 8 times then the song fades.

8. Discuss the use of the genres characteristics within each section and the song as a whole The introduction to the 1 st chorus section of the song was R&B, when the vocals joined at the 2 nd verse to the 2 nd chorus it was gospel soul and the 3 rd verse and 3 rd chorus it was both R &B and gospel soul together. 9. Evaluate the piece using musical terms and explain why you think this song was the best example of the genre. This song was the best example for our presentation because our teacher told us! Nah we’re joking, the reason why we chose this song is because Stevie Wonder was one of the well known gospel soul artists
